Why don’t manufacturers use chiptuning?

This is a complex issue. There are partly technical as well as other reasons.
Technical reasons:
When a car factory starts developing and mass-producing a type, it has to make a lot of compromises in terms of fuel economy, performance, driveability, durability, operation in extreme conditions

The cost of development is tailored to make a marketable car.

even under changing climatic and air pressure conditions. You can see that in addition to performance, they have to pay attention to something else.
One more thing: When designing and manufacturing the mechanical dimensions of an engine, they can never produce two completely identical parts, so they work with certain tolerances, so there will be engines that are tighter, there will be those that are looser,

Most of the cars sold in Hungary are made for the countries of the European Union, where insurance premiums have to be paid in proportion to performance, not on the basis of cubic centimeters (engine volume), as in our country. Therefore, the same engine in a car that is designed for, for example, 100 hp (horsepower) is intentionally held back (by electronic adjustment) so that even people who can afford to pay little insurance can buy it. They think they will be good at 60 hp too…
It’s not a nice thing, but that includes the fact that factories don’t aim to keep car parts from deteriorating either. – it’s interesting that they get almost as much from selling parts as from selling cars!
Sad, but their goal is not to use as little car as possible…. There are several reasons for this, I would like to highlight one:
The main structural parts of the engine are not designed and redesigned every year (when a new model is launched) because it would be very costly to make completely new production lines and design a new engine,…
Even today’s cars often have 4-5 year old mechanical construction engines. – Of course, there are minor changes are recognized
An important factor in competition between car manufacturers is that they can come up with innovations every year, mainly in terms of performance and consumption, due to market competition…
So how can they solve this?
They make a very good, low-power engine, then drive it down as much as they can and sell it. Then a year later, they change the electronic setting and a big novelty comes: “Our technology has evolved tremendously, our new model is 10 hp more powerful and consumes 0.5 liters less. ..)
The position of the manufacturers is clear and simple:
If you want a stronger car, buy it much more expensive with a bigger engine, or in 1-2 years with the same engine, only with a better electronic setting (quasi-chip tuning!), Of course much more expensive.

b. Insist on professional service ?!

There is also a selection of chiptunings, both in terms of price and quality.
Since this intervention fundamentally determines the life of the engine and the operation of the entire car, it is not worth relying on accidental, uninitiated “professionals”. I’ve come across ads in several places where they’ve been promised unrealistically cheap
chiptuningot. These “services” cannot be based on a professional development team, as the necessary software and tools are very expensive. Continuous development requires continuous investment, which must also be produced. – I think we have arrived at the contradiction…. These are not professional factory services and have caused problems in many cases. When I write these review lines, I write my experiences. Unfortunately, we often have to correct the wrong settings afterwards after the ‘colleagues’ mentioned above.
It’s no secret that professional technology for diagnostic, adjustment and monitoring software, other instruments are very expensive.
There is a price for quality work, the responsibility and the guarantee. Everyone decide for themselves, if you are interested in chiptuning, that it is worth saving on the price of this service? Is it worth taking / risking the harmful consequences of unprofessional work?
In summary, it has been proven a thousand times that it is always cheap to expensive….

c. Custom setting for each car.

The tuning chip, made by Rigotech Motorsport, has a unique setting for each car for the best possible effect. Be aware that the memory chip contains not only data related to the operation of the engine, but also a number of other important information, such as: manual or automatic transmission of the car, air conditioning, cruise control, sometimes including the engine number, other identifiers, immobilizer data part, factory diagnostic and service data, settings, etc.… Think about what can happen if you do not use a custom setting, but load the contents of a car with a completely different equipment, capability, albeit the same type, into the chip? In this case, negative effects cannot be ruled out, and even if the car starts with the new program, there may be problems with it later. (idling problem
when the air conditioner is turned on, cruise control does not work, the car does not communicate with the factory service instrument, mechanical problems, etc.…)
During the individual tuning, only the data related to the motor function are modified – optimized, so the other important settings remain unaffected. Thus, the appearance of any undesirable effects is precluded. The car is impeccable in all respects
works. When they are taken to a branded service center in the future, they can still test with the factory instrument there. These instruments do not show the modified settings. (as the data on the equipment and identity of the car remain unchanged)

d. How does the life of a chiptuningol motor change?

For non-supercharged (conventional intake) petrol engines, as the amount of air supplied to the engine (intake) does not change and the amount of excess fuel added at certain loads is minimal, it does not overload the engine.
Charger (turbocharged, compressor) petrol and diesel engines offer a greater increase in power, as the amount of air introduced can also be varied here. Excess air results in greater compression, which a
means an additional load on the engine. It should be noted that these motors, on the other hand, are so oversized due to the already high compression that they are not damaged by this increased load. This is confirmed by the factory specifications and the cars that have been tuned in before and have been working flawlessly ever since. The first chiptuning cars have been running without any problems since the early 90s. Of course, all this is only true with a moderate, proper setting.

Excessive turbocharging or other parameter increases will increase the overload, which can damage the engine and other components.
It should be noted here that even a car set to a strong overload in extreme operating conditions (sporty setting) can be taken care of if one only pushes the boundaries occasionally. So the sporty setting doesn’t signal the end of the engine.
In line with the above: if someone goes with the factory untouched program, in a style that “one by one to Pest, on the floor” it can also be a problem.

My private opinion is that the life of the engine and gearbox is mostly determined by the use (driving style, strict adherence to service dates, use of quality materials) and is less affected by a well-modified setting. Be it an optimized or a sporty setting.

It is true for all types of chip tuning cars that because they deliver more torque than the factory at lower revs, they can be driven well even at low revs. You don’t have to turn the engine back on all this time,
resulting in relatively less engine wear and tear.
In addition, the most important factor in terms of longevity is the driver of the car.

My private opinion is that the service life of the engine and gearbox is mostly determined by the use (driving style, exact adherence to service dates, use of quality materials) and is less affected by a well-modified setting. Be it an optimized or a sporty setting.

e. Does chiptuning increase consumption?

The answer is yes and no.
Yes, because chiptuning makes it possible to increase the maximum power of the engine. – when we drive the car on floor gas. In this case, even with optimal settings, consumption can increase as it is much higher than at the factory

Not because during normal operation at partial accelerator pedal position and load (average, daily use) the engine runs more efficiently due to the optimized setting, less effort, no need for higher

f. Is it possible to restore the factory state?

Yes. If the customer requests a factory reset at any time in the future and for any reason, we will do so free of charge.
If you do not have the original contents of the car because the intervention was done elsewhere, there is also a good chance we can help restore the factory condition.

How is Rigotech chiptuning done?

The operation itself takes 1-4 hours, on average.
Each intervention begins with a preliminary trial run and a health assessment. In the event that we judge that the technical condition of the car is adequate, we will begin the actual work.
We inform the client about the possibilities and guarantees, if you are interested in the course of the intervention. Let’s set a goal together and start.
You must first access the contents of the factory-set memory.
– This can be done by disassembling the control unit (more severe disassembly, but a completely standard, routine procedure)
– or by connection to the removed control unit (minimum car breakdown)
– or via the factory service connector, – so-called with serial programming.

The read factory content is checked and then archived.
After that, we open the content with one (or more) programs, with which we can make the necessary changes and checks.
Based on factory data and information, we determine where the data you want to change is located in the read content. These data, which need to be changed, appear in various tables, diagrams, 2 or 3 dimensional curves, so that they can be interpreted and understood. With the help of the program we perform the adjustment and optimization individually.
Then, the parts containing the modified setting are implanted in the factory program. Then in most cases the so-called. CRC (checksum) should be calculated so that the modified part is fully consistent with the other data and then at the end
check the entire data file at the same time.
The completed data file is programmed into memory and the motor controller is rebuilt. – if previously removed at all
We start the car and check for proper operation, followed by a test run or performance measurement.
If everything is fine and we have managed to achieve the desired effect to the maximum, we will hand over the car.
Since each car is different – this is the individual setting – if we did not reach the goal at first, after evaluating the experience, we will make another modification (s) until we find the most suitable set of values ​​for the given car and desire.

What are the advantages or disadvantages of Rigotech chiptuning?

When you use our service, you will experience the following positive changes thanks to factory technology:
An increase in horsepower and torque can be felt, which can be felt not only in the higher speed range at full load, but also at low and medium speeds at partial loads. After adjustment, the engine torque is displayed at lower speeds for better acceleration, guaranteeing better handling. It saves both the motor and the other elements of the drive (it is not true for a sporty setting, the loads can be much higher there!) Because due to the excess torque, it is less often necessary to switch on the engine again and run it at a higher speed. The intervention is not usually aimed at reducing consumption, but the experience is that the modified engine characteristics at medium load (average use) are approx. Consumption of 0.5-2 liters / 100 km results in a reduction and emission values ​​remain within the appropriate range or improve due to better ignition values.

The memories we install come exclusively from well-known manufacturers such as AMD, Intel, SGS-Thomson.

If possible, the modified program is written back to the original chip – after reading, checking and archiving the original data, of course. This way, no extra parts are needed. (For cars manufactured after 2000, the factory part can be reprogrammed almost without exception – except for many Japanese products)
You only need to install another memory if the factory part is called. can be programmed once (cheaper version) and reprogramming is not possible. In this case, the removed factory memory is issued to the customer if requested, or attached to the car’s worksheet and archived.
